Simplicity in HR and Business: The Next Big Thing

It is time to step away from the madness of the business world. HR and L&D teams need to go back to basics and understand the value in focusing on simplicity.

Although it may seem paradoxical, it is important to step back from the various competency models, frameworks, process diagrams and workflows that have become so prevalent in HR. These can blur our vision of the real problem and its root, and can lead to unsustainable solutions.

Now, this doesn’t mean that the HR, talent or leadership programs should be simplistic (they should instead be profound and well-designed). It does however mean that we need to start spending time on figuring out the few things we “don’t need” within an organization.

How do you do this? Here are the three simple questions to help guide you:

1. What is the business problem or goal we are trying to achieve?

2. What are the top 2-3 talent challenges holding ups back?

3. What simple new process, tool, technology or steps can we add to fix number two and contribute to number one?

So focus on understanding your problem, and coming up with a simple but profound solution.
