Enhancing Learning Using the EAST Model


Recently, we have been hearing a lot about innovative education, technology, and gamification learning platforms. When considering the implementation of these types of innovative training frameworks, one must keep certain things in mind to ensure their adequacy and success.

Numerous leaders in the tech-learning industry have developed models that help ensure fruitful results from interventions. The EAST model, developed by Behavioural Insights, claims that in order to effect any sort of behavioural change, interventions must be Easy, Attractive, Social and Timely. Here we outline some of the important concepts of each of these categories:

  • Easy: include clean language, avoid ambiguous statements, make navigation through programs easy, and allow for completion on different devices.
  • Attractive: provide infographics and images rather than lengthy notes to explain concepts, make sure reports are intuitive, provide visible rewards for completion of programs.
  • Social: allow for some sort of social interaction in all interventions in the form of chats, discussions and other social media features that enhance user engagement.
  • Timely: training must provide well-timed messages and reminders for deadlines to achieve goals that ensure results in a timely fashion.
